Welcoming Luke To Boast Architects
Over the past five weeks, we’ve had the pleasure of welcoming Luke to Boast Architects for a work experience placement! Luke, currently studying Construction Management at Oaklands College, brought amazing enthusiasm and curiosity to his time with us, and it’s been a joy to share insights into the world of architectural practice with him. During his placement, we challenged Luke to design his own building on a real site we recently completed. On his final day, he confidently presented his concept to the team, thoroughly explaining his vision and thoughtfully embracing our feedback. Here’s what Luke had to say about his experience with us: "It was very helpful, it taught me a lot about the job role, AutoCAD, and detailing. It was a very enjoyable experience." We’re delighted to have been part of Luke's journey and can’t wait to see the exciting future he builds!
Transforming Tradition: Cottingham Farm Barns, Bovingdon
Challenge: Our mission was to transform a traditional barn into three distinctive, modern dwellings while preserving the charm and character of the Hertfordshire countryside. Approach: Inspired by the original barn's profile, we expertly blended traditional architectural elements with innovative construction techniques. By utilising modern SIPs (Structural Insulated Panels) and finishing with sleek zinc cladding, we achieved a harmonious balance between heritage and contemporary design. Result: The outcome is a set of timeless homes that beautifully marry the old with the new. Cottingham Farm Barns stands as a testament to our ability to respect heritage while embracing modern sustainability and design principles.
Cottingham Farm Granary, Bovingdon
🚀 Project Highlight: Cottingham Farm Granary, Bovingdon 🚀 We're excited to showcase the transformation of Cottingham Farm Granary in Bovingdon, a project we took from initial concept design to completion. It was a pleasure collaborating with @jmcontractorsltd on this fantastic project! Built using SIPs panels and elegantly clad with brickwork and timber effect boarding, this new build property offers stunning 360-degree countryside views. One of the most significant advantages of using SIPs is their off-site prefabrication, enabling rapid on-site assembly. This project showcased the speed and efficiency of SIPs construction through week-by-week progress, highlighting the swift evolution on-site. We extend out thanks to @glosfordsips for their valuable support in bringing our project to life. At Boast Architects, we take pride in working on a diverse range of bespoke residential projects. Lucas’ Journey at boast architects
Recently, Matt Moore, James Gould and Chris Mitchell had the pleasure of welcoming Lucas, a talented student with a keen interest in architecture, for a week of work experience at Boast Architects. Lucas impressed us with his incredible enthusiasm and creativity, particularly when designing an outbuilding to use as a music rehearsal space. His innovative approach and fresh perspective were truly inspiring. But what stood out the most was Lucas' reflection on his experience: "The people here have made this a nice experience for me and always helped when I needed it. They were very encouraging with plenty of guidance. The journey seems like a lot, however, I think being an Architect is something I would enjoy." This feedback encapsulates the core of why we do what we do. At Boast Architects, we believe in nurturing young talent and providing a supportive environment where creativity can flourish. Lucas' journey reaffirms our commitment to mentorship and the importance of fostering the next generation of architects. We are thrilled to have been part of Lucas' journey and can't wait to see where his passion for architecture takes him next. His experience underscores the impact of guidance and encouragement, which are pivotal in shaping future professionals. Here's to inspiring and being inspired by the architects of tomorrow! 🏛️✨
Transforming Traditions: A Modern Extension Masterpiece
Boast Architects are thrilled to announce the completion of a single-storey rear extension that perfectly embodies contemporary elegance and functional design! Rather than a traditional extension, our client envisioned a modern space that beautifully contrasts with their brick bungalow. The result is a stunning entertaining area, ideal for family gatherings and social events. The client recently hosted their first family meal in the new space and shared how well the new layout suits their lifestyle needs. One of the key challenges during the design phase was maximising daylight in the house. We addressed this by incorporating rooflights in the new entrance hall and utility area, and installing two sets of bifolding doors in the extension. These features flood the space with natural light, creating an open and inviting atmosphere. The standout feature of this project is the distinctive eaves window, which serves as a striking focal point upon entering the extension. Despite the higher cost, our client was eager to invest in this unique element to enhance the overall design. We thoroughly enjoyed bringing this vision to life and are delighted that our client now has a beautiful, functional space to create lasting memories.
Project Completion: The Old Engine Shed, Radlett
This project presented a unique challenge: transforming an industrial heritage site into a modern, bespoke home while preserving its natural surroundings. Our approach focused on blending innovative design with a deep respect for the landscape, ensuring the home would not only stand out but also fit seamlessly into its environment. We tackled the challenge by carefully managing the ridge height and introducing cedar-clad dormer windows, which will age gracefully into the landscape. This thoughtful design solution allowed us to maintain the site’s character while offering expansive countryside views. The result? A stunning dwelling that feels perfectly integrated with its surroundings, reflecting both the past and future of the site. Boast Architects managed every step, from planning approval to construction oversight, ensuring the project’s success. A heartfelt thank you to our client and the talented team at @jmcontractorsltd for bringing this vision to life! If you have a similar project challenge please get in touch with our team.
