We’re delighted to announce a major step forward in one of our current projects—planning permission has been granted for an innovative barn conversion in Hertfordshire! 🏡 This journey so far has been a true collaboration, working closely with our client, planning consultant Paul Atton at Weldon Beesly LLP, and energy assessor TwoEighty Consulting. Together, we’re changing an agricultural barn, adjacent to a listed farmhouse, into a stunning single dwelling and three commercial units paired seamlessly on the opposite sides of the structure. Challenge: Transforming an old agricultural barn into a modern, functional space while preserving its historical essence and meeting stringent planning regulations. Solution: Through innovative design and meticulous planning, we’ve crafted a solution that balances heritage and modernity. Our commitment to sustainability is at the heart of this project, ensuring every decision respects the environment. From energy-efficient systems to sustainable materials, we’ve integrated eco-friendly practices throughout the design. This is more than just a barn conversion—it’s a vision brought to life, where architecture meets innovation, and heritage meets environmental responsibility. We can’t wait to share more as the journey unfolds!

Last week, Matt Moore and Richard Tavener headed up north to visit our exciting project in Thornley, Durham. It was a fantastic opportunity to see the progress being made on-site and catch up with the team to discuss upcoming milestones and challenges. One of the highlights of the visit was reviewing the next phase of construction—especially as we prepare for the arrival of the robot, which will be on-site in the coming weeks to begin building. This marks a major step forward, and we can’t wait to see the innovation in action! Stay tuned for more updates as the project continues to take shape. 🚀

We are thrilled to share a photo of one of our most exciting transformation projects to date at Boast Architects! Appointed to lead the project through RIBA Workstage 4 and secure building control approval, we saw an opportunity to elevate the design even further. We successfully incorporated all desired rooms while ensuring a functional layout, especially for the client's growing daughters, and future-proofing the design with a versatile snug and a bedroom ready for a future ensuite. If you’re dreaming of a design that solves your challenges and unlocks your property’s full potential, let’s make it happen!

Working alongside dbstructural Ltd we’re excited to announce our latest residential project in Thornley, Durham—a transformative project that combines architectural innovation with cutting-edge technology. 🏡 This development features seven new family homes, but what truly sets it apart is how they’ll be built: using advanced robotics technology. 🤖 By embracing robotics in construction, we’re redefining the standards for efficiency, precision, and sustainability, paving the way for the future of home building. Construction begins in the new year and can’t wait to see these homes take shape—an exciting milestone for Boast Architects and a step forward for the industry.

Challenge: Our mission was to transform a traditional barn into three distinctive, modern dwellings while preserving the charm and character of the Hertfordshire countryside. Approach: Inspired by the original barn's profile, we expertly blended traditional architectural elements with innovative construction techniques. By utilising modern SIPs (Structural Insulated Panels) and finishing with sleek zinc cladding, we achieved a harmonious balance between heritage and contemporary design. Result: The outcome is a set of timeless homes that beautifully marry the old with the new. Cottingham Farm Barns stands as a testament to our ability to respect heritage while embracing modern sustainability and design principles.

🚀 Project Highlight: Cottingham Farm Granary, Bovingdon 🚀 We're excited to showcase the transformation of Cottingham Farm Granary in Bovingdon, a project we took from initial concept design to completion. It was a pleasure collaborating with @jmcontractorsltd on this fantastic project! Built using SIPs panels and elegantly clad with brickwork and timber effect boarding, this new build property offers stunning 360-degree countryside views. One of the most significant advantages of using SIPs is their off-site prefabrication, enabling rapid on-site assembly. This project showcased the speed and efficiency of SIPs construction through week-by-week progress, highlighting the swift evolution on-site. We extend out thanks to @glosfordsips for their valuable support in bringing our project to life. At Boast Architects, we take pride in working on a diverse range of bespoke residential projects. Boast Architects are thrilled to announce the completion of a single-storey rear extension that perfectly embodies contemporary elegance and functional design! Rather than a traditional extension, our client envisioned a modern space that beautifully contrasts with their brick bungalow. The result is a stunning entertaining area, ideal for family gatherings and social events. The client recently hosted their first family meal in the new space and shared how well the new layout suits their lifestyle needs. One of the key challenges during the design phase was maximising daylight in the house. We addressed this by incorporating rooflights in the new entrance hall and utility area, and installing two sets of bifolding doors in the extension. These features flood the space with natural light, creating an open and inviting atmosphere. The standout feature of this project is the distinctive eaves window, which serves as a striking focal point upon entering the extension. Despite the higher cost, our client was eager to invest in this unique element to enhance the overall design. We thoroughly enjoyed bringing this vision to life and are delighted that our client now has a beautiful, functional space to create lasting memories.

This project presented a unique challenge: transforming an industrial heritage site into a modern, bespoke home while preserving its natural surroundings. Our approach focused on blending innovative design with a deep respect for the landscape, ensuring the home would not only stand out but also fit seamlessly into its environment. We tackled the challenge by carefully managing the ridge height and introducing cedar-clad dormer windows, which will age gracefully into the landscape. This thoughtful design solution allowed us to maintain the site’s character while offering expansive countryside views. The result? A stunning dwelling that feels perfectly integrated with its surroundings, reflecting both the past and future of the site. Boast Architects managed every step, from planning approval to construction oversight, ensuring the project’s success. A heartfelt thank you to our client and the talented team at @jmcontractorsltd for bringing this vision to life! If you have a similar project challenge please get in touch with our team.

We're proud to share a recent project where our values centred on problem solving skills and attention to detail truly shined. In May 2020, we obtained planning permission for our client. To keep the application active, the client had foundation trenches dug and concrete poured by a local groundworker. We then stepped in to complete the working drawings package and secure building control plan approval. Understanding the importance of a trusted contractor, we connected the client with J M Contractors, who previously built the house at our Cottingham Farm site. Their proven reliability made them a perfect fit for this project. Throughout the build, we've been diligently producing the required information for planning consultant Paul Atton of Weldon Beesley to discharge the planning conditions. Additionally, our commitment to quality has seen us conduct monthly site visits to inspect workmanship and generate detailed site reports with relevant photos. Given the increased traffic due to construction, maintaining the track from the main road to the site became essential. We ensured this was part of the agreement with JM Contractors, benefiting not just our client but also neighbouring properties. To uphold this, we've been conducting monthly photographic surveys to monitor the track’s condition. With completion just around the corner, we look forward to seeing this project come to fruition, exemplifying our dedication to excellence and meticulous attention to every detail.
