We were delighted to welcome Albert from Sherrardswood School for work experience, where he had the opportunity to explore the architectural design process through his own summerhouse concept.
During his time with us, Albert researched, planned and developed a design for an outbuilding in his garden – a 5m x 6m summerhouse with a Mediterranean influence, designed as a relaxed family space for both indoor and outdoor living.
His concept included a kitchen area, a cosy layout, and a pergola designed to encourage plant growth and create a stronger connection with the garden. As part of the process, Albert considered style, materials, practicality and the constraints that influence how ideas develop into buildable designs. He also gained experience using design software and benefited from professional feedback, helping him refine his scheme and understand more about the role of an architect.
It was great to see Albert’s confidence and creativity grow throughout the week, and we wish him every success as he continues to explore his interest in architecture and design.
