It was fantastic for the Boast Architects team to visit RDT Architects recently completed Furzewood Lodge Care Home and see first-hand how this impressive new care home has taken shape on site. Site visits like this are hugely valuable for our team. For both Boast and RDT, it is an important reminder of the impact our work has on the quality, functionality and experience of the spaces we help create. Little Furze Care Home is a purpose-built 75-bedroom care home in South Oxhey, Hertfordshire, delivered for Hertfordshire County Council on the former Little Furze Primary School site. The project presented a number of exciting challenges, including a steeply sloping site, protected ancient woodland boundaries and ambitious sustainability objectives, including BREEAM “Very Good” and a low-carbon, fully electric care home strategy. RDT Architects played a key role through the early RIBA work stages, including pre-planning, planning and technical design development, helping to shape a design that responds carefully to the site’s levels, surroundings and future residents’ needs. The project programme also identifies RDT input across RIBA Stages 1 to 6, reflecting the importance of continued architectural involvement from concept through to construction and handover. Seeing the building on site brings that journey to life. It allows the team to appreciate the scale, detail and buildability of the design, while also strengthening our shared knowledge across the Boast and RDT teams. A great opportunity to reflect on the work that has gone into the project, celebrate the collaboration behind it, and continue learning from the buildings we help deliver. #RDTArchitects #BoastArchitects #CareHomeDesign #Architecture #Architects #Construction #ConstructionIndustry #HealthcareDesign #LaterLiving #SustainableDesign #BREEAM #Hertfordshire #SouthOxhey #TeamVisit #SiteVisit #Collaboration #LearningAndDevelopment
